building my 97 5 speed

Ok guys i have a 97' 5 speed v6 coupe with just over 82000 miles on it and i want to get some power out of her. i notice when i open her up and she gets up to about 3700 rpm she acts like shes about to keel over dead. not like theres something wrong just like the car is being choked to death. so i've already figured that and intake and exhaust will make a big difference, but then i get to thinking well it is just a 150 horse v6 and an intake and exhaust isn't going to change much at all. i live in California and i have to smog the car every two years. what would be really great is if i could get like 260 or 300 smog legal horses out of her and make the car a bit of a sleeper. is it even possible? and if so what will it take? will i be losing dirveability, because it is my only car and thus so a daily driver. will i be loosing a lot of life off of the motor? i really would like to touch bases with a few guys that have done stuff like this to there v6's before so i can kinda learn the ins and outs of building her up. i know some people are going to say why not just by a gt. well i don't have the money to do so and i cant get a loan to do so either. i just had a baby who is now 3 months old which most of my finances go to and its easier for me to piece together 300 horses than to go buy a gt. well i hope you guys have some insight into this hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks!

my adviceis get full dual exhaust (for sound and a suporting mod for what is to come) , do a split port swap, with ported head, and intakes. then throw on a vortek s/c and a good tune. that should put u in the area of 250 to 300 easy.

yes all that should be sog leagel as long as u keep the cats ont ur exhaust and don't get long tube headers (there good praformance wise but i don't think leagle in cali)
and if u run 7 to 9 psi on the s/c ur bottom end should be fine

with the split port top end u will need a tune, and yes it can handle s/c just fine.
there is a guy on this site that has a vortek on his i belive 2002, and he has around 255 rwhp and 273 rwtq. his name is SSstang
also if u can get the top end for free definetaly try to fine a shop near u that can do some porting work.

yes but since u cant get l/t's because of cali laws u may want to saty with the stock manifolds, because u r not gana see much gain from shorty headers.

call them up about it because there r other diferences like the 94 to 98 gave a return fule systom and the 99to04 have a retern less systom.
so i would seggest calling them up and asking about geting a split port swap kit, but that u also want the heads and intakes ported, they should be more then willing to work with u.

his car doesn't have one... i know mine doesn't... and its the same thing...

look into a split port swap while getting a stage 2+ power pack... of if you wanted to go through RPMustangs for the ported heads you might be able to get the important things like cables and hoses and fuel components with out the heads from ssms

our cars dont have what??? and if im going to go with a vortech s/c kit then i want the stage 3 kit dont I? and what about the mac prochamber any one running one on shortys or stock manifolds. i know my v6 has stock headers rather than cast manifolds but im gonna assume that all v6's have the stock shorty headers.
