Rear End Replacment
Hi there! I have a 1997 mustang v6 (3.8) and I need a new rear end from rotor to rotor. Could I just pull a complete rear out of a 95-98 GT model and put it on? will my acceleration be faster, or my top end? will it do anything to the engine? I know it tuned to run with the v6 model ( the rpm's are). Will it do anything to the motor? I know I will lose about 1 -2 mpg. But is it possible? I believe that the v6 rear is 7.5 in lenght??? And I believe that the GT is 8.8 in length. Will it fit in there? Please advise. thanks!!!

you can and the 8.8" rear bolts right in from those years and gives you added durability and the tlok differential. you will have the same gear ratio as a stock v6 at 3.27:1 and will lose no mpg at all and not require a tune. the only difference is the stronger, bigger rear end and axles and tlok differential to lock both rear tires.

I thought that the v8 and the v6's had different ratios? What rear would you reccomend? I drive my mustang a hell of a lot harder than I should. I push this car. would the v8 rear do just fine? Or should I put a Cobra rear on it?What is the earliest and latest year rear that will bolt right up? Does the v6 rear have tlok? Lastly, will I need to get a new speedo? or will the speed still register the same?

I am completely stock right now. I have no idea what my horsepower is??? Do you know? I wanna have my 0-60 time right around 6 seconds. I know its not there now. What do I need to buy in order to achieve that?
I know right now on highway races I blow Neons, Civics, Accords, Eclipse, Prelude's, and I actually beat a Scion TC. What do I need to get in order get my 0-60 around 6 seconds??? Thanks!

i recommend an 8.8 out of the same year car you have. you wont break the 8.8 unless you have a 5 speed dropping from 5k, slicks and over 400 ft/lbs of tq on stock axles. v6 does not have t lok years from 96-98 will bolt right up if it has same gear ratio, you dont need a new speedo, speedcal, or tune

i know that the speed sensor is in the transmission so i do not belive that it will mess that up at all, but i would also like a new rear for my 94 because it doesnt hook up for crap, can these rear ends be had at junkyards?

Sry. I meant to mention that mine is a 5 speed. I couldnt find one from a 97 mustang. The closest year I Found was 1998 Gt. it is from a junk yard. The Mustang had 46k on it.
What mods do you think I should do to get 0-60 to 6 seconds???

to get a 6second 0-60 you will need sticky tires on a track and more than 4.10s/tlok/bolt ons because i dont have a 6second 0-60

Yes, they do sell them at junkyards. Prices vary from 100 up to 900.00 Call first to make sure they have a mustang. Most dont keep an inventory of the cars they have. Make sure the mileage is reasonable on the junked car. Some junkyards even offer a 30-60 day warranty on them.

you can get a brand new 8.8 rear w/3.73's from FRPP for about $800 that will bolt up, but you will have to correct for the ratio difference

you'll need forced induction. maybe a cam and a strong n/a setup with the right weight and gears can get you a 6 second 0-60, but a 6 second 0-60 is like a low 14 with good traction and a good launch on slicks. you could do that n/a with a perfect tune, but you need about 270rwtq to do it

I went to the website you gave me and I found a cam. Could you tell me what choosing a "B" cam means? this is what it says:
If choosing a "B" or higher performance camshaft...you'll also need to change your stock valve springs to heavier springs, to prevent coil binding. Do i need new valve springs? Should I get them just incase?

depends on how fast you spin it. i believe 99mustang232 knows a lot about the cams for our cars and has posted an article somewhere. maybe try PM'ing him to get more info. i barely know the basics of morana's cams
