Kinda old, but definitely worth watching again... or for the first time if you've never seen it.

Without a doubt, that would be a very fun car to drive.

The Type R engine makes 300hp, IIRC, and certainly a lot more torque than a hyabusa engine. Plus, a home-build dune buggy thing is unlikely to be able to hold a candle to the Atom in overall performance. Sure, you could just build a tiny little frame, toss a busa engine on it, and it *might* be faster than an Atom in a straight line, but the full package of the Atom is going to be very hard to match.

I haven't heard about the next gen one, yet, so you may be right on that.

On a seperate note, last I checked, the current U.S. Atoms use the "LSJ" supercharged 2.0L Ecotec engine from the Chevy Cobalt SS.

yeah US ones are ecotec last I saw on the SAE engineering sheets though the new design features a S/C toyota 2az engine but they didnt go into detail on it. All it said was they are using the 2az since it will be legal n the US and abroad

actually its available for 20,000 pounds if i heard right sooo that means a little under 40,000 grand, i doubt they would spend 100K to make it and then lose 60,000 grand everytime they sold one

The top of the line Atom 1 had a Type R engine that was supercharged for ~300hp, IIRC. Now, they are all powered by the LSJ Ecotec, now.

Certainly, there are some people who could do it, but there aren't too many that could buy a bunch of seperate parts and slap something together that matches the performance of the atom.

You have to sign up to get pricing on Atom's website, now, but I believe that last time I checked, the "base" cars were in the 30's, and the ~300hp ones were in the 50's.

Interesting... They obviously like the 2.xL Supercharged engines

not to argue because the car is cool, but if you supercharge the hyabusa engine you can get way over 300hp....and it a bike engine so its already lighter than a 4 cylinder engine. Just tryin top get you to think outside of the box.

bad thing about the busa engine is it revs to high, with motorcycle gearing you can hit high rpms really fast it isn't applicable to the car situation since the busa engine hits power so high in the rpm band shifting with a car type clutch would be really difiicult
