Auto vs. Manual
i was wondering, if you considered 2 cars in this case a 2.2L engine from chevy had the same drivers same every thing the only difference would be that one car was automatic and the other is a manual transmission, who would win a race from start to stop off the line, also who would win from a rolling start? i keep getting different answers and IMO i think the auto would start off faster but the manual would take it in the end...

auto could prolly take it off the line, but once the 5spd hits 2nd gear the auto is done. Off a roll 5spd no doubt.

Depends on the drivers..
If I miss 2nd or 3rd then auto wins..... If i redline and shift (or know the powerband) and shift whichever works better, then I will every time.

stock for stock, with a disent driver the manual will win, two reasones, the manual can shifet faster then the stock auto, and the manual has less drive train power loss.

the auto going off line first is true.
i raced my parent's 05 5-speed v6 stang against a 05 auto v6, and he got me off line, but i did a major burn out. soon as i hooked and hit second i flew by him... it kinda amazed me really lol, that was first time i raced a 05 with my dads 05

ok cause they were saying that a person can not shift as fast as a computer so the auto would win but i told them the auto has some power loss so the manual one is a little faster also has exact control of where his shifts take place, off the line the auto will be in front but after a few secs the manual one will pass him or her by

if he is tuned he MIGHT have a chance... well what if he is not how big of an advantage does the manual have are we talking multiple cars lengths of just a few split sec's?

tuning is and shift points is just a quicker shifting manual and even then not really shifting quicker then a shift kit
so we're talking like .001 of second type shit and then power terrain loss will add up quickly

If both have decent drivers and both are stock, the manual will take the led right at the launch and expand that lead all the way down the track.
On average, assuming decent drivers in 99-04's, 5-speeds are a few tenths faster in the 1/4-mile. For cars moving at 90-100mph, 1 tenth equals roughly 1 car length in the 1/4-mile.
