18's are nice, but the honest reason i didn't get 18's IS because of weight. every bit matters. besides, 17's are also nice. and perfect for me-- seeing how im not really a rims guy anyway, and the stock look was boring and i just needed to upgrade. and 17's are cheaper than 18 (didn't wanna be out too much money)

18s and even putting 10.5 in the rear is not needed on the V6 unless you have some sort of FI. the extra rotating weight from 18 tires/rims is gonna be harsh on your stock brakes , and have a 10.5 that requires a much wider tire to fit correctly is gonna add even more unnecessary rotating weight....unless you want all show and no go. 17x8 or 17/9 is good enough until yur making high HP.
my 2 cents.

18s look good imo, but so do some 17s. Its really taste, and you have to match the rim size, color, car color, all that to make it all work together and look good.

Mine with 18" Saleens on Nexen tires (needs lowering hehe, no bodykit now tho):

18's aren't just "a little more money" if you're auto-x'ing or open-tracking your car and you're replacing tires often. 17's are cheaper initially and in the long run, and they generally offer equal or better performance. If that's the case, the only advantage with 18's is looks.

There's a difference between not HAVING the money and not WANTING TO SPEND the money. I could easily go to a dealer tomorrow and drive home in a new Z06, but I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. I could have also easily bought 18's, but I'd rather save that significant amount of long-term spending and put that toward actual performance parts.

As others have said, it's all about personal preference.
