Exhaust Help?

i want to buy an aftermarket exhaust for my new 06 v6. im planning on buyin a cat back system and i know most provide around the same hp increase. i was wondering if anyone know which kits make the v6 sound like a v8 or just loud and throaty but not rediculous. thanks

you should consider a full exhaust setup so you dont have to repurchase parts to work together in the future. I suggest at least an H or X pipe to a cat back to get the power the Y pipe robs. Long tube headers are a plus as well. Getting rid of catalytic converters will ulitmately make the most power difference.

would be a good set up for your car "thekidtucker" you'd see about 20+hp gains with the exhaust and long tubes. i second that that motion.

if i remove the cats wont that make it so it wont pass smog. i also read about high flow cats that dont rob hp but also make it smogable. the long tube headers v.s. the short tube what would be the difference in hp and loudness.

I myself would stay away from the x-pipe. You will be better off with an H-pipe on an even fire motor. The X will give it a much higher pitched ricey sound. Also if you have emission testing in your state then you will want cats. They do not restrict as much as they used to. Longtube headers,H-pipe and a takeoff GT catback exhaust and you will be set...

have you heard mine? long tubes, no cats, straight through mufflers. it doesnt get much stree legal decibals...

X would be ideal for flow on the 4.6, but since the essex motor is even firing, as turp suggested, an H will give the best sound with a chambered muffler.

if you have emissions, long tubes and off road midpipes will fail. get shorty headers or none at all, a high flow midpipe with high flow catalytic converters, and a cat back of your choice
