If we're talking specifically cams (not engines), the actual manufacturer for SSM and Delk is the same... CompCams.

Long story short, the cam's oil passages weren't drilled correctly, so after a few minutes of running, the cam gear and CPS gear overheated and destroyed each other, leaving me with a lot of work, several parts to buy, and a whole lot of metal fragments in my engine.

well i try telling him that but i think he really just don't want me to have to pay for install. see he can do the cam himself.

Maybe he doesn't know as much as he claims.

Theirs so many more wrong things that can happened with a cam. rockers, push rods, and you can get deeper and deeper.

I'd rather have to replace something in the rear end than tear down the entire block...

Well have fun takin apart you engine to put a cam in to only get about 10-15 with your stock heads, upper/lower intake. All that work for pretty much no gain isnt worth it in my eyes.

I wouldn't say you NEED to do the intakes when you do a cam because you can still see big power increases without them, but it doesn't make much sense not to do heads. Your heads and cam need to be matched, so there's not really any way to keep everything matched up well without buying a new cam when you actually do the new heads.
