ummno

if anything 10w up north so it acts as a 5 and 10 when hot or cold
here 5w30 alone is
fine

as for your car USE WHAT YOUR MANUAL says its that simple
if it says 5w20 on your oil cap then use 5w20 if it says 5w30 use that

Generally true, but Ford has released a TSB that has retroactively recommended 5W-20 on some cars that were originally recommended something else:

02-1-9***ENGINE - ENGINE OIL - RECOMMENDED APPLICATIONS FOR SAE 5W-20 AND SAE 5W-30 MOTOR OILS - GASOLINE AND FLEXIBLE FUEL VEHICLES ONLY

It's got 6k on it...

And yeah, I'd go with what it says on the cap if it's an S197. The TSB was retroactive for cars prior to '02 or something that originally recommended something different.

Interesting. I know most manufacturers are going to thinner oils, particularly 5wx or 0wx instead of 10wx. This is supposed to allow better oil flow when the engine is cold. As to the hot viscosity, if the oil pressure is adequate with the thinner oil it should be fine.
