vince1128 Newbie Join Date: Sep 2006 Posts: 4	What Are Some Of The Best Things To Gain Most HP, Little $ I am buying a 96 base, i will have about a grand left over, what should i do for the most power, its already got an h-pipe with dual exaust. im not sure any of the other specifics about the exaust. its an automatic, so should i get 3.73 gears? how much would that cost? what other things could i do.

King Mustang Regular Join Date: Jun 2006 Posts: 74	well some say for automatic get 4.10's. but they will hurt your gas mileage. underdrive pulley, cold air intake, tuner....... Gears will cost you about 150 and up but you also need a tlok witch is also 150 and up.

Actually the worse part is the extra cost that is involved with some of those items. The extra parts, Gaskets, Fluids and most of all Labor cost if you are not a do it yourselfer.

1Clean6 Regular Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Hampton, VA Posts: 124	I would shy away from longtubes on a stock singleport. You just dont flow enough air to take full advantage of them, and would probably end up losing backpressure/power.

A cam is a really sweet mod, you can sit back and notice the difference immediately. Its not like a CAI or UDP where you "think" you feel the gains. After you cam your V6, youll notice the difference the second you start it up. And as soon as you hit the gas it will put a smile on your face.

ok if your goin to do forced induction get 3.73 not 4.10.

5-speed or forced induction = 3.73

automatic n/a = 4.10

Yes, some people with 5 speeds have gotten 4.10s but this will dramatically shorten first gear so thats why it is recommended for autos.

Also if you are planning forced induction you are gonna need to beef up that 7.5" to an 8.8" rear end.

A cam should be your last mod. You put in a cam for an n/a motor and then get a supercharger, guess what? you will need a new cam to maximize it's potential. Best just to get a cam when you feel you have everything you want done.

not really. removing the cats alone will grant a lot of backed up power potential, but long tubes flow much better than restrictive and poorly scavenging of heat shorties, and even stock singleports see good gains with l/ts over s/t. long tubes may reduce peak tq but will greatly help peak hp
