3.73s In A 7.5 Rear... Will It Fit An 8.8

basically that ? up there

i plan on going turbo in the future..like next year, i wana buy gears but if i get the 3.73's now for my 7.5 rear, im pretty sure they're not going to fit the 8.8 rear that im going to need in the future..
please tell me im wrong

if not then im thinking about gettting 4.10's for now....or just not wasting my money on it.

also will the the t-loc on a 7.5 work for a 8.8

Would you expect a 7.5" ring gear to fit on an 8.8" carrier? You would need to swap the entire rear end.

If you can do the work youself it wouldn't be a bad idea to put some 4.10 or 3.73 in your 7.5.
But if you need a mechanic it might be better to save you money for a 8.8
But as you are most likely aware your 7.5 may not hold up with your turbo.

Chris, the size of the rear end (7.5, 8.8, etc) is the ring gear size so no, the carriers and gears are not are interchangeable. The axle shafts however are interchangeable between some 7.5 and 8.8 rear ends.

since we're talking about an 8.8 rearend here, what parts would I need to build an 8.8 rear end. I'm looking at 28 spline axles, I have a 2000 gt posi trac, which I believe is a 28 spline axle posi trac. Would I need a drive shaft that is compatable with the posi trac or is there no difference. Also what other parts are needed? I'm looking at putting the suspension in at the same time as well.

Stock axles are 28 spline. No need to change the driveshaft either. What exactly are you doing? Do you have an 8.8 in the car and want to rebuild it?

No I have nothing, I have a posi trac from a gt that a friend gave to me and that's it. What else do I need to complete this build up?

well I don't think this is what you meant but incase it is you can't make a 7.5" rearend into an 8.8" if that is what you are saying. you mean you only have the posi unit with no axle housing or anything, right?

yeah i know that it's not possible to make a 7.5 into an 8.8. What parts exactly will I need. I'm looking at making a 28 spline set up. I have a posi trac from a gt and that is it. What should be the first thing that I get and do you think it's cheaper to achieve an 8.8 rearend this way than buying one? What all exactly will I need to make one. Housing, axles, what?
