check engine light


I have a 94 mustang and it is overheating...i had to put 2 qrts of oil...when i start it i shakes a lot but then it goes away once it is on for a while. the check engine light is on... i do not know what it is. can it be the thermostat?

does it smoke a little when your driving it?
its just wierd that you HAD to put in two quarts without draining anyout

..i had to put in 2 qrts of oil...
Check your engine oil more often, you shouldn't let it get that far down.

Find an auto shop or place like AUTOZONE (free) who will read the trouble code
& tell you what you need.

Add water when it cools down, check the temp & if the electric fan comes on.

i did add water and i left the car on to see if the fans came on and they did but they did not stay on for along time...and the car started to overheat...but what i dont understand is why it shakes so much.

..but what i dont understand is why it shakes so much.
It could be as simple as a bad plug wire , plug or a vacuum leak.
Find a way to have the check engine light code read.

you should check ALL of your fluids regularly.

I would try a new thermostat...theyre only a few bucks.
