SC-Charger On 3.8 Taurus?

Well, i currently have a 90 taurus that i can do anything i want with and be torn apart the enitre winter, and it's 16.57 1/4 mile is a little slow for my liking, i know the 3.0's run 16 flats stock but i got the 3.8 n don't wanna do that swap, might as well do an Sho swap if i'm gonna do that, but $$$, so i know i can prolly find a supercoupe and gank the injectors, supercharger, wiring harness and ecu with better luck and less $ but have no clue if the bottom end in a supercoupe is stronger than my regular 3.8, or if it's at all feasible and was hopin someone could shed some light, -Mike

what 3.0 are you talking about?! i hope you dont mean a v6 3.0 mustang...cause then you've got something wrong. the v6's come in 3.8, 3.9 and the newer ones 4.0

as for an engine swap....a s/c is near $4k..incase u didnt know, and thats not including installing or a tune. and engine sway whould be cheaper.

also im not sure if the taurus has a mustang engine or not,,,i hve no clue, but if it doesnt....good luck finding parts, i dont thing they have a wide selection in parts for a taurus. including a s/c(supercharger)

if you have a singleport taurus, it may be similar to the singleport thunderbird s/c, but i am not sure about swapping the charger over. maybe someone with thunderbird sc and taurus experience will chime in

as for the strenght of a supercoupe bottom end, if you pick the right years you will get a forged crank, and there are studded main girdles you can buy if you want big power strenght

i got a 3.8L taurus but i wanna put the 3.8L supercoupe supercharger on it, have lots of access to parts but just don't wanna waster my time. Reasoning, from factory this motor made 140hp and 220 ft lbs torque and i wanna go faster. Maybe i'll get ahold of someone at a ford dealership who'd know

ps, pic is of when i first got it, it looks better under the hood now

EDIT- A 210 hp, 315 ft·lbf torque supercharged and intercooled version of the 3.8L V6 was included in the top-of-the-line Super Coupe (SC). The Super Coupe was available with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as the AOD 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission, the only transmission available in the other Thunderbirds. The Thunderbird SC was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1989. The 8.2 to 1 compression ratio was combined with six computer controlled, sequential fuel injectors. When running at a maximum 15,600 rpm, the supercharger provided 12 psi of boost, producing 210 bhp at 4000 rpm and 315 ft·lbf of torque at 2600 rpm
-Also, the super coupes came with an auto comp-controlled AOD 4 speed trans, i've got the comp-controlled AXOD 4 speed auto

that is essentially a sideways 94-98 3.8 singleport mustang engine, but i am not sure on what is inside it for the taurus...

i suppose i could get the casting number and we could figure out what it is, it's a 1990 and it's only got 91k miles on it

EDIT- super coupe only ran from 89-97, 94 and 95 had a bigger supercharger =The Super Coupe continued on in 1994 with the same supercharged V6 as before, but now with 230 hp and 330 ft·lbf of torque. This was made possible due to a number of changes. The M90 superchager was given a larger square style inlet, a larger attaching inlet plenum, 70mm throttle body, teflon coated rotors, and a stronger fuel system. These increases in output would be short-lived, however, as the Thunderbird Super Coupe was discontinued after the 1995 model year.

I have done the supercoupe m90 swap on my 98 3.8 mustang. I also have the same sideways, front wheel drive, engine in my 93 Lincoln Continental. I wanted to do the same swap with the lincoln, but then I remembered what happened to the mustang...

Put 2 connecting rods through the oil pan after only 1 hour with the m90 and a the new tune.

Rebuilt the engine with all forged internals, same tune, same peripheral setup. It has been working great for over a year now. (obviously very weak internals).

Blew the automatic tranny up after 7k miles. So, I swapped in a Tremec T-56 6-speed manual.

Blew the rear axle out after 4k miles. So, I swapped in a built 8.8" rear.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet my left nut that the taurus does not have forged internals. The Lincoln doesn't, neither did the Mustang. Even my 89 supercoupe had a cast crank.

I may have broken a lot of things on my car, but at least I haven't done the same repair twice. But, it wasn't cheap.

Just a word of warning, though it would be awesome to see a m90 blown taurus.

yeah see what i've been readin says they're the same motor, 12 psi of boost isn't a huge load, but the AXOD fwd trans is weak also. Early AXOD and AXOD-E models were known for poor reliability due to internal lubrication problems, and these were mostly smoothed out by 1995. These transmissions require fluid changes every 30,000 miles to maximize service life. Intermediate clutch failures resulting in poor 1-2 shifts or slipping are also common on all AX family members.. If i'd do it i'd get the whole car, i think i still know where one is, blown up if i remember tho, so if i swapped cranks maybe.....

I dont know how strong the tranny is in those...One of my ex's had a 1990 Taurus...The tranny went out at like 150K...

Why not get a turbo set-up for it? I dont know the internals would handle it though...
