V6 That Won't Stop!
Hi, I have a 1996 v6 auto, and was wondering if anybody could help with a problem I have as in the UK I am struggling to find anyone with american car knowhow! The problem is my car keeps running even when I pull my keys out of the ignition and have to disconnect it at the engine to stop it! I managed to get a new tumbler from a 2000 stang but the car wouldn't even start with it! Please help!

Does everything else turn off with the key switch, like the radio? If not, then the problem is probably the key switch.
If that is working properly, I would check the CCRM (Contant Control Relay Module). There is a relay in there that sends power to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). When relays fail, they either don't stay on or don't turn off. On my 98 3.8 mustang, the CCRM is located under the passenger front fender. You have to remove the front tire and black plastic fender. I would get an owner's manual with a wiring diagram. Then, you can find which wire is the power supplied to the PCM. That wire should only be live when the key is in the "run" position. If it is powered all the time and the key switch is good, I would be willing to bet the CCRM is bad. |

No the radio and everything electical stays on, the actual key just swivels round in the ignition without the 'clicks', so it does sound like it could be the key switch as apposed to the tumber barrel, do you know where I may be able to find a key switch? Thanks.
