SCT X Calibrator 2 Questions

Hey, the package arrived today with the Xcal 2 inside. I bought it off of an ebay seller. ($210) Is there supposed to be some software, other wires and the little SCT Emblem decal as well? He claimed it was like new. I figured "like new" meant came with everything a new one would. What do I need to use this? All I got was the Xcal 2 unit and a single sheet with a list of the possible tuning. I can't try it out just yet either since I'm about to swap the engine in my car. I also noticed there is a little rattle when I shake the unit. I haven't left feedback yet. It came, and what I got looks to be in good condition but I wasn't sure what a new one is supposed to come packaged with. What should I know about this thing and it's capabilities? Any advice is always appreciated.
Thanks, Nathan

He said it was...

How can I check to see if it's unlocked? Can I hook it up to my Mustang's old engine (with the thrown rod), or will that lock it on to that engine? I want it to work with the engine I'm going to finish and install in the next few weeks.

I don't have any extra cables at all. I have no way of hooking it up to my PC! No CD, no cables, no booklet, no SCT emblem. WTF! Did I get screwed? What is supposed to come in a new unopened package for the Xcal 2?

Plug it into your car and find out if it's locked. Go to the sct website and download all the drivers that you need. The cable to hook the tuner to your pc is a simple usb cable you can get one at any electronics store for $15 or less. New tuners do come with a nice badge that you can put on your car (see pics in my garage). As far as that goes I think you're pretty much screwed.

BTW...like new doesn't mean new. Also other than the cable that is permanently attached to the tuner...the tuner doesn't come with any cables (unless you order from tricktuners .com)

calm down......i had the same issue and got a little crazy (some of you may remember lol). The cable is a simple usb a to usb b that can be bought at walmart for $10 or so. The software is free online. And if it is locked you can either send it in to sct to unlock it for $150 or you can do the really cheap but not the best thing to do like what i am doing. You can order a tune from Joe at Trick Tuners, SCT Flash Tuners, SCT Flash Custom Tuning, PLX Devices widebands and gauges, SCT Flash tuners, SCT Xcal2, sct livewire, sct xcalibrator and ask him to turn the PATS off on the tune. Though to get the original car tune to revert back to you can call SCT and ask them to send the stock tune for your car with the PATS off.

Yup I remember. I also remember that Joe helped you out big time. Hopefully he can help this guy out too.

Alright, I hooked the Xcal 2 up to my car today and checked it for codes (It's clear) so it works fine. I went to the SCT website and looked at all the cables they have for sale. Should I get any of those? What programs do I need to download?
Thanks, Nathan

you can find the drivers here..
SCT Flash Devices - MORE Power . . . Period!

just because it can clear codes doesn't mean that it's unlocked..

like I said.. try down loading a tune to it.
you only need 1 cable.. and I can get it to you for $10.00

Is that the usb cable? If I download a tune to the Mustang before I swap the engine out will it be locked out when I try to hook it up with the next engine?
I was checking out tricktuners.com, it seems really cool. I'll probably subscribe once I get my car ready.
P.S. HMUSN, Where can I find info/pix of that '91 Cougar that runs 9.24? I'd like to see that!

yes. thats the usb cable.

and no. you would down load the tune just to see if the xcal is locked.
as soon as you download the tune you care re-load your stock tune unlocking the xcal so you can use it after the swap.
and for the cougar pic go here I Dynoed The Cougar!
