Don't think I can get away with a no cat setup here in BC Canada. That, I believe, is an instant fail when it comes to getting your car insured.

Ok and for whatever I do end up getting, do I just need to pick up the muffler itself or do I need to go more than that to get the sound I'm hoping for?

mufflers make it sounds different, the mide pipe (H, Y, X, straight pipes) shorty headers, lt headers will make it louder. and no cats n shit. im bout totaly wasted so you telme
going dual is pretty much the same cost as not dual |

As long as you don't have to get it air cared i.e. lower mainland. Then your in the clear. You could run strait pipes if you wanted, haha just dont let the cops see ya, they can give you a ticket but you should be good to go, I've got plenty of friends who yanked off there cats and emissions crap here in Vic and we don't have any problems.

Ill explaine since obd is being his usual self, haha.
Just mufflers will make a difference, no performance gains, but sound wise, alittle better. A full catback system will see performance and sound. YES! it is worth it. A GREAT first mod. You can't "legally" run longtubes in most places, so I believe that would be out of the question for you since you need cats for insurance and such. I think they do make catted lts, but im not sure, and if they do, they are more than likely expensive. Your stock set-up has a y pipe. ![]() And here is an x-pipe. ![]() and an h-pipe.

I run a o/r x-pipe with pypes catback. (no cats) but pypes makes a catted catback. I LOVE the sound.

Thanks man. That did shine some light. To START, I want to start with something for more of a sound upgrade as I'm looking at upgrading to a newer Mustang. That being said, should I just go for the muffler alone? I don't want to feel like I wasted money on something like this, you know what I mean?

you could prob get longtubes if u also got a catted shorty midpipe..its wat i was planning on doing this summer when i get all the money together lol...if u can u might want to find a muffler shop that does fabrication cause u can usually get a set of mufflers tips and piping all welded up and watnot done for less the cost of a cat back kit...and they can cut the y pipe exhaust right behind the cats to give u true duals which is a pretty decent sound...also i personally prefer flowmasters...thats just me i like the sound and i got no problem with other people choosing different setups but no reason to shoot down wat others like

Well, ebay isnt working for me, maybe it will for you.
This is what you would need. Pypes 409 Stainless Steel Violator Catback with Polished 304 Tips (86-93 LX & 94-97 GT) but its when you get to the mid pipe that money goes WAY up, haha. Look at the price difference for no cats. Pypes 409 Stainless Steel Off-Road X-Pipe (96-04 V6) And I just looked, and I dont even see a catted midpipe for your year car...haha. |
