Lankolf Regular 97' 3.8 and 65' GT 289 Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Colorado Posts: 157	I got an idea the other day, maybe it's crazy, but I think it's rather smart if it works, but I thought I'd talk to you guys first and see what you all think. I've been on the lookout for an oil cooler(little radiator that cools oil), but I'm getting so many damn radiators stuffed under my car (radiator, a/c, intercooler) that I'm starting to worry about room. Now as we all know, it's a good idea to keep a turbo's oil cool. Thus a oil cooler. Well, I was thinking, my car is a five speed manual, and thus there are no tranny lines. Therefore, if I were to get a radiator that supported tranny lines, I could run oil through it rather than tranny fluid. If my assumption is correct, this would keep the oil cool and eliminate the need for additional parts (except it would need a radiator out of an automatic). How's the idea sound, stupid or smart? On another note, I was observing my turbo pretty closely and realized it is water cooled Also, I've been studying what piping methods have worked for other people and I'm starting to get a feel for what I want my turbo set up to look like. I'm going to move my battery to my trunk to make room in my engine bay, and I have some ideas going on in my head that I think just might work without too much fabby to the body. Let's also note, I'm $45 USD into this project, but just to be fair I'll double all values in my guide because not everybody has the same resources I have. your going to run a transmission on engine oil...

uhh...

no.

you wont have many coolers going on, it will be fine you can always have them down in front, you wont have any issues with intercooler/ radiators

He wants a radiator than cools tansmission fluid, but instead of running his transmission lines through it, he's gonna run oil for the turbo. Lankolf Regular 97' 3.8 and 65' GT 289 Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Colorado Posts: 157	Because I don't think you can cool them too much, but maybe I'm wrong As for self contained, I don't think so, it had a line running from the oil lines, and then an outlet leading to the oil pan on the original Saab, and not only that, but a turbo would quickly burn up self contained oil if it were all stored in that tiny thing, or at least that's my impression. As for the running oil through the radiator, I suppose I'll try it and see, I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. Chris, would you care to chime in please? You're the leading expert on this sort of thing. i don't believe so... but you might be able too... i would just go with anything off an OBD2 engine just to be one the safe side, then you have to tune the injectors into the cars parameters
