Painting a Bumper.

Someone want to walk me through the steps of painting a bumper? Not the "this is how I think you do it" or "this is what I would do."

The real way to actually paint a bumper so it will match my car.

Get the ford color, and spray it onto the bumper, after prepping it.

Do you have a compressor and a spray gun?

...jerk, haha.

No, ive never done it. Which is why I was wondering about prices of paint and such. I have friends with spray guns and such, and there is a local shop in town that does paint and things like that so if I DO mess up, I can take it to them, but I might be intested in tring myself.

ur gonna need about 7 ounces of paint if i remember correctly to do about one part of a car, thats like 2 or 3 layers....going against ur opening statement though i could be wrong

If you go on itunes and look up the tv show called "trucks" on powerblock tv they did an episode of showing u the tricks to painting and watnot...i know its not as good as someone actually showing u in person, but it can give u an idea of the amount of work that will go into it and wat ur gonna need etc etc

ya hes about right, and if you dont have a paint booth or a vented room dust, hair, and other small particles are gonna get inside your layers of paint so be careful

oh Im not being mean I was just wondering how knowledgeable you were so I would know if I could use painting terms.

but here we go. Sand down bumper to primer and first two layers of primer off.
Spray bumper with gun useing a back and forth motion over lapping about 3/4 of your previous layer of paint
do 2 coats of primer 2-4 of paint and 2-3 of clear all in the same manor as listed above.
next feather in the paint, to do this wet sand off the clear coat and a few layers or paint on surrounding car features (fenders, hood, ect.) and repaint them with paint and clear.
this will make the freshly painted bumper less noticeable
finally wet sand and buff let the paint cure for about 3 months and wax

and a shop is about 5-700
