Tuner?

I hear i need a "tuner" to get the most out of my mods (CAI, exhaust).

1) Whats a tuner?
2) How much $ ?
3)Where to buy (or where to take it to get it...tuned?)?
4) how much gain could i get? Would it be a "healthy" on a '99 with 102,000 m

OH! and while im at it, PULLEYS! i can only find them for GTs, where can i get them for a v6?

also, since ur "stealing" hp from other components in your car...does that mean the other components wont work as good? (A/C not as strong, etc...)

Thanks!

Get your tuner from joe at Trick Tuners, SCT Flash Tuners, SCT Flash Custom Tuning, PLX Devices widebands and gauges, SCT Flash tuners, SCT Xcal2, sct livewire, sct xcalibrator. Make sure you tell him that you are a member of MM (you get a pretty good discount). The link in my sig will take you to his page. Everything that you want to know about tuners you can find on that page. You'll want to get an SCT XCAL 2 or XCAL 3. There is also the livewire which is good especially if you plan on going FI. Joe's custom tunes are very good. He has a great deal...when you buy your tuner from him you get the tuner, usb and data cables(these won't come with the tuner if ordered from any other place), and you will get 2 years of free custom tunes! On top of that as an MM member, the tuner will cost you less than it would from any other retailer.

As far as the pulleys, a lot of it depends on what you're running in your car. For example, if you have a high power sound system then you may need to upgrade your alternator if you want UD pulleys. However, in most cases you shouldn't notice too much difference in the way that these other things run. If you do then you need to reconsider your setup.

A tuner is Married to car once it's used You can't use One Tuner to tune alot of cars.

You can get a local shop(If You can find one) To do a chip. but a dyno tune is going to cost $400 at least.
And You may still need a tuner.

Find a used tuner for about $250 and then Get Joe To write You a tune.

It's the best route for You.

Ok you can buy a tuner...for $350-$400 (for XCAL 2 or 3) You can continue to use this tuner to retune your car every time you get a new mod. The tuner can also read and clear DTC trouble codes. Or you can take your car to a dyno tuner, who will tune your car once and charge you $400 to do it. Then you'll have to go back to the dyno and pay another $400 each time you get a new mod.

I think he's better off buying the tuner new from Joe. Used tuners can be a REALLY big headache. Plus when you buy the tuner from joe the tunes are free. Although he'll sell you two years of tunes for $40. The thing is it's hard to work around if the used tuner is still locked to another car. It's just a big PITA.
