Supercharged 3.9
What mods would i have to safely drive around with a supercharged v6.
I talked to chris last night and i think i annoyed him, because for some reason i thought doing the 5.0 swap which would cost like 5000 would be cheaper and better than just s/cing my car. Then afterwards i realized how dumb that was, i could just blow my car and have like 450rwhp or so a 5.0 swap and be spending about equal money and have like little more than 1/2 the power. So even though a turbo would be faster i like blowers better, sorry thats my style if im going to do any forced induction. Definately wont spray my car. That shit isnt good for the engine. Some ppl like it but not me, i think its cheap power. |

This question is hard to answer. It depends on your goals. No matter what I would consider an 8.8 rear although it might not be needed at low boost. Now as far as everything else...what kind of boost are you looking for? You can do 6-8 psi safely on the stock engine. If you really want to push it, you might be able to get away with 10psi(but you might not get away with it too). If you want more boost than that, then you need forged internals.

First off, you would need a built V6 with ALOT of boost to get 450RWHP. A Vortech on a stock V6 is about 278RWHP i think. Anywhere from 300-350RWHP yur engine gets in the dangers zone and you will want it built up to take on the added stress from boost. Nitrous is not bad on the engine as long as it is installed correctly. If you have no fuel upgrades a 75 wet shot would be perfectly safe on the engine. Of course with any power adder you MUST have it tuned or boom. 100 shot is prolly the biggest shot you can safely use on a stock non-built engine...and that would require fuel upgrades and of course a tune. 450RWHP is possible on a V6....but i dont see it being done for less than 5000. Even if it was possible....now you have all this power, but what about the 7.5 rear axle? the stock shitty brakes? the tranny? stock suspension? You cant go balls out power without balancing everything else...or strengthening essentials that will most likely break form too much power. Chris isnt making 400RWHP and broke his tranny AND rear axle at the same time.

I'm pretty sure Chris didn't break his /rear axle/
And >350rwhp is considered the "danger zone"

chris did break his rear, and spray is no more dangerous than a s/c lol
but if you want 450 thats gonna take a good amount of boost, IMO, 8.8 rear with aftermarket LSD, forged internals and a studed bottom end you'll stay safe

dont forget bigger brakes to sopt all that HP ~500 -1000 depending if you do all four. Plus a better suspension to keep the car stable....price varies on what yur looking for...most basic suspension packages ive seen around around 1500.
not even getting into the price of the blower itself. ~4000 new.

still has to purchase that s/c which even used is more than 2K
To answer the actual question at hand here.....adding a s/c to your engine is fine and safe as long as it has been taken care of. Keep the boost below 10 PSI without an intercooler though.

what brand, and how many miles were on the head unit? It its a procharger, i hear the internals need to be rebuilt every 5k or so....where as vortech will outlive the car.
still a good deal regardless.

The prochargers don't need to have their internals rebuilt every 5k miles. If you get the self-contained unit, you need to change the oil every 6k miles with oil from procharger. There have been problems with the self-contained unit leaking oil, but its not due to the internals (I can't remember whether it is a gasket or a valve that is most common).

turbo>nitrous>s/c stock motor
450rwhp can be done with 10psi (built motor)
