Unhappy

Brakes!

So. For some reason, I decided to replace my brake pads myself.
Not as good of an idea as I thought it would be.
All 4 brake pads went on nicely. Smooth. Quicker than I figured.
Except my right rear brake line appears to be leaking.
>.<
Not a good sign.
I'm curious as to how I change my brake lines or how do i find out if it's the brake lines.
I live in a small-ish town in Arizona called Maricopa and there's only one real good mechanic and I don't want to risk driving out to another city if my brakes are going to fail on the way there.

Any advice?
[I know this was a completely asinine thing to do; given my nonexistent mechanic history.]
Any help is much appreciated. [:

**Also, I know something is leaking because when i look at my rotor, an inch of the inside of the rotor is covered in a rainbowy, oily streak.

check to see if it is attached to the caliper really tight and look to see if you can find the origin of the leak. if it is leaking at the caliper just tighen it up. if it has another leak replacing the brake lines isnt that hard

edit: welcome to MM btw... post pics of the stang!

Yeah; I drove it around right after I got everything installed. and it seemed fine.

Then the next day, I drove it around for maybe a mile or two and it smelled...like burnt rubber almost.

It was weird. And I felt the rotor...nothing had freshly leaked. It just smelled like shit. Lol.

& I'll post pics of it when I got get it back from my parents'. [That's where it's sitting at the moment.]

First off welcome to MM. Second I notice that you have an '06. How many miles do you have on it? It just seems a bit too new to be doing brake work on it already. Well, I guess if it needed it...it needed it. If you want to take it to a mechanic, I think that your brakes should hold out long enough for you to get there. Just be careful. Good luck.

Thanks!
And I've had it for over 2 years now; I got it November '05.
It's got around....I think 67,000 miles?
This is my third brake job...I've just never done it myself 'til now. Haha.
And it wasn't a good idea.
I just wanna know if i can fix it myself before I have to go to some brake shop.
They usually try to sell me a bunch of shit I don't need.
[I'm a 20 year old girl with a new Mustang and they take me for a gullible little bitch.]

So. Yeah.

as i stated see if you can find where the leak is coming from. jack up your right rear and put it on jackstands and take the rim off. get someone to get in the car and press the brake a couple times. you should be able to find where the leak is coming from with that

Replacing the pads shouldn't cause a hydraulic leak unless some of the brake lines were disconnected. If any of the lines were removed from the calipers, then the fix is new copper washers and torque the banjo bolts to about 30 ft lbs.

Wow thats a lot of mileage in 2+ years. I can see why you needed brake work now. Do as costie said. You should be able to find any leaks.

gotta find the leak first before you fix it. plus the hose could have beein pinched or somehow got a hole in it while changing the brake pads, or after, hell even before then and now its noticeable.

hollie... narrow down to where the leak could be coming from. then once you find that post it up here and even with pics if you can and we can further assist you

Just something that could be worth checking......

Call ford to see if there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on that. Not long after I got my '02 I had the PCV valve... or whatever that damn thing is that is mounted dead center of the passenger side vavlve cover... anyway that was leaking oil all over my valve cover. I went and asked ford and they said they had a TSB on it and they would replace it for free.
Just something to check on considering your car is still pretty new.

coasties right, thats probably the best way to do it.

(i think the leg humpers would try to say they are not a leg humper in order to get closer, little sneak attack on the legs.)
