17" Wheel/Tire Staggering

Hi everyone...This is my first post and I'm excited to learn some new things about the Mustangs. I just picked up a 2000 3.8L Mustang with low mileage and it is stock except for 17"x9" Bullitt wheels on all 4 corners. I was wondering if anyone has tried a staggered wheel/tire setup with 17x9's in the rear and 17x8's up front. With the current setup, my car tracks pretty hard with the large size of the front wheels and tires, in addition to strong road vibrations above 65mph, and I'm interested in swapping the front wheels for a smaller size to gain better handling. Any help would be appreciated on this topic. Thanks.

vibrations mean bad rotational mass balance...

and yes its very possible... lots of people do 8 inch up front 10.5 out back

Welcome to the forums.

a staggard rim set up is common with mustangs.

Would the car have better cornerning and overall handling by using a 1" smaller width wheel up front, do you think?

most def.

for your car I would run 245/40/17 in the front and 275/40/17 in the rear

good chance... it would handle better if you had less rotational mass... 15" rims are lighter then 17" rims and they will handle better...

Im not saying downgrade, cause i have no problem with my 17x8's at all... but yea
