exhaust question (not a common one)
I just installed my replacement exhaust manifold (passenger side) and my mac o/r h-pipe and mac catback. I was surprised how good it sounded at idle compared to my previous set-up (Jones Full Boar muffler welded in). But... it sounds absolutely horrible past 3k rpm! Would installing a couple high-flow cats help to keep the rasp down, or is there any way to lessen it, or will it lessen as my mufflers are broken in?
On a side note, the passenger side manifold did not fix my exhaust leak. The previous manifold was cracked, but I still have a leak coming from somewhere on that side. I plan on seafoaming it when I can get a couple friends to keep an eye on different parts of the exhaust to look for sources of leaks, but does anyone have any ideas where the leak could be coming from? I'm thinking manifold to midpipe or egr (i couldn't tighten it more than finger tight + a little). Thanks. |

high flow cats should take some rasp out...i didnt think H pipes were supposed to be too raspy as is...as for the leak...im not sure....seaforming will definately help ya there...sucks you replaced the manifold and still got a leak!

That was my next question. Could just be the way the exhaust sounds.

Started it up and had some smoke coming out of engine bay, smelled it and it was definitely exhaust. Loosened everything, and adjusted the manifold-to-midpipe joint so it was at the smallest angle I could get it, and tightened it, but there is still some smell and noise when driving (the ticking is gone, but there is still some noise, making me think it is further from the cylinder head, and closer to the manifold-midpipe joint or the egr connection). I'm no mechanic though. |

ok cause I had what sounded like an exhaust leak and it was spark knock from the tuner. get some seafoam and find the leak is your best bet
