T5 leaking out the tailshaft

Ok well one of my friends has a 02 6er and its leaking trans fluid out the tailshaft. I did some reading on this cause i thought it was the tail shaft seal. But then they talk about that it is probly the bushing inside the tailshaft and that the tail shaft would have to come off

Any ideas

put an egg in there to see if it seals it?

its probably the rear main seal on an 02

The shop manual for a 99 shows replacing the seal you are talking about. It shows using a slide hammer with hook type adaptors to remove the seal. You could probably rent an appropriate tool.

It appears there is also a bushing and I would imagine replacing the bushing would best be done with the transmission disassembled.
