Aluminum Driveshaft


im getting a new turbo kit and i want around 350 hp at the wheels, will bolting on the aluminum driveshaft safeguard the car from breaking or do i need more for the rear end.

no...you need to strengthen your rear end...the aluminum driveshaft is just lighter than stock so there is less rotating mass

what should i get to strengthen the rear end, its a 7.5 and i dont want to upgrade the whole thing to an 8.8 what can i get to strengthen the rear end to support the horsepower

You will probably want to start with strengthening the rear-end, rather than a driveshaft. A regular 8.8 rear from a gt will be fine if you plan to stay at 350hp, get an 8.8 31-spline if you plan on upping the boost later on. I have no clue about trannies on the 4.0, someone else can chime in on that. If you want an aluminum driveshaft, go ahead and get it, it will help performance a little, but won't safeguard the car from breaking. If you get an aluminum driveshaft, grab a safety loop while you're at it.

you would have to get stronger axles and differential....but your best bet is an 8.8 from a gt because i dont think that they sell bigger axles for the 7.5

where would i get an 8.8 from? would a t lock, and new ring and pinions strengthen it

i would go to a local junkyard and pull one off of a gt....and yes it would if you get the right ones...but i wouldnt think it would beable to take 350hp

i found an 8.8 on ebay for $800 is that a good pick up or should i look at a junkyard, also can the engine and tranny handle 350 rwhp????? and will i need to upgrade anything else besides the rear end to support the power???

ur engine can handle around 9psi, ur tranny will prolly hold up to around the 400hp region...either way more power puts more stress on everything so beefing up stuff is always a good idea

get a good LSD for the 7.5 like a true track or a detriot locker and a gear set it should stand up to the power

u have any links to specific parts im trying to avoid getting the 8.8 i want to just upgrade the stock rear to handle the power if thats possible

well i found the 8.8 for about 800 i guess il have to eventually get it, newtakeoff.com has it for 1045 with shipping
