Success in compressing pistons!!!

I just went thru the "joy" of replacing my wife's 06 Mustang rear pads. No one here mentioned that the rear pistons need to be TURNED IN. After wasting two trips to the auto parts store and getting a useless universal tool to turn the pistons in I gave up on them and ground down an old, never used, 1 1/16" socket to where it would fit into the notches on my piston. I put this custom tool on my impact wrench and slowly turned the piston back in. Amazing how much a correct tool makes a job go easier. New pads are installed, everything back together and road test was successful.

So, I remember someone here saying they were an ASE certified mechanic. Did you mention that these pistons need to be turned to get them back in? If so, I missed it.

Hope this helps someone who might be searching for the answer on how to compress the rear brake pistons.

Val
