7.5 rear end issue

Ok, so I was going to upgrade to the 373 gear set and T loc in my 2002 v6, but my rear end decided to shred the left hand carrier bearing. Is this a common problem with 7.5's? I would hate to think that I have too much torque with just cold air, shorty headers and flowmasters on it. There's no way thats it is it?

Is this after the install? Did you put friction modifier in the diff?

shred the bearing? theres the case bearing on the actual open carrier case. then you've got axel bearings

I have been having issue's with the stock rear end and really figured it was the gears, no, actually HOPING it was the gears so I could replace them. I had to take it in to the shop because I have no clue when it comes to rear ends. They just called and said the left Carrier bearing was shredded. Thats about all I know at this point, but I was talking to another mustang guy and he said that it sounds like a case of too much torque. I jut don't see how thats possible.

Yes, this is on the stock rear end. As I said, I wanted the issue to be the gears so I could upgrade. Sorry if that was not clear.

not from torque, could be improper bearing preload while the new t-lok and gears were installed.
you dont shread bearings from torque if they're installed correctly

shreading a carrier is tuff to do. my guess would be either your fluid just wasnt lubricating it properly pr possibly and axle some how got mis aligned or bent a little and warped the bearing

So I need to make sure they double check that axle for any warps or bends. Guess I'll have to wait a bit for the 373's and T Loc. Thanks for all the help.

Carrier bearings are not alot of money. Do the the gears and traction lock while they are in there already and save yourself a crap load of money.

I'm probably getting ripped off then, the place is charging me 450 to take everything out and clean all the metal chuncks and shavings out of the rear end and replace the bearing. The gear kit is another 450 so I'll have to wait. My 67 Mustang takes all my 'extra' spending money.

yeah go somewhere else it should be about 450-500 to disassemble the rearend, replace the carrier, and put in t-lok and gears at the same time
