and the driveshaft and pinion gear and ring gear to turn axles and wheels all of that would take you power to turn the driveshaft just like it takes the engine power...its takes the engine more power to make those components turn. that why make the flywheel and drive shaft lifter make it easier to turn which in turn free's up power

to add to what torres said, there is a more parasitic loss for auto's than manual trannys.
