Synchro position sensor clip?

'98 3.8L V6 Engine
What's up with this clip that goes on the hex drive shaft for the oil pump
after the camshaft sprocket. I can't seem to find mine. I'm pretty sure it couldn't have ended up in the motor. (The timing cover was separated from the enging prior to removal of the synchro position sensor) What is it's purpose? Should I worry about replacing it?

Was there supposed to have been a picture?

When I had mine out the hex drive shaft stayed on the cam position sensor and I assume something was holding it in place but I didn't look at it.

You might check with Ford and look at their parts book.

It may be just an assembly aid. I put the cam position sensor in first and then the oil pump. Possibly if the pump is installed the hex shaft is held in there.

i just had my cps out and i never noticed this clip you are talikng about, but yea my whole hex drive thing stayed attached to the cps. I do have another one laying around so i could go look at it and post a picture so we could see if it has the clip and where its at
