Posi Rear End Without Gears. Good Or Bad Idea?
I was gonna get 4.10 gears with a posi but instead i decided to just go with the posi and get a bigger cam.
will i have the power to still do a burnout if I have a posi and cam but no 4.10 gears? |

i dont even have posi and i still can do burnouts just power break it....i was gonna get just posi and no gears because bigger gears mean less gas but i decided that when i invest posi i should just get gears too because it will make a difference....so id say get the gears

no, no, i know i can burn out, but if you get a posi isnt the power transfered to two tires insterad of just one?
I figured if i put in 4.10's and a posi it will burn out with both tires but if the gears arent there the car will have a harder time doing that. The reason I want the cam is for the extra 20 or so horse power and i want that race car sound since i already got a h pipe borla. So thats why i want the cam for better sound and performance with a posi for good 2 wheel burnouts.. |

well look at it this was with the 4.10 gears and posi you will have the power to the wheels to back up that "race car sound" now im not saying the cam is a good idea but if you get the gears and posi first you will be more satisfied with your cars preformance than with the posi and cam

there is so much misinformation in this thread, so i would advise listening to my post and not the previous ones.
you do a one-wheel-peel with a v6 mustang's stock open 7.5" differential. the gear ratio is either a 2.73 or sometimes a 3.27. you can do a two-wheel-peel with a posi trac/limited slip(lsd)/trac lok or otherwise locked rear during straight line acceleration. the trac lok setups open around cornering to allow for even tire wear, but some true lok setups are welded spider gears so they have no clutch or opening actions for cornerings, but any locked setup will burn both. gears do NOT put power to the wheels to back up a race car sound. they merely accelerate the car quicker; most often, a few rwhp will be lost due to a steeper gear, but acceleration will nonetheless be greatly enhanced. a steeper gear is less than 150 dollars, and while you have a trac lok put in and set up, the same instal is done wheter or not gears are done too- so save up for the gear and utilize the speed associated with a two-wheel-peel or you will just crave more and never be able to shave a half second in the e/t for 150 bucks. if you want a cam, decide all of your mods first, then get the cam last to capitalize on the mod potential. you should have no problem overpowering the stock mustang rear brakes on the v6 or gt model with 2.73 gears, but why not spend the extra money for the acceleration instead of just the look of a two-wheel-peel?

im looking at getting a t-lok for my car... what gears do you suggest for an overall great performance and good top end speed, to go along with the new differential?

4.10s will only get you at 120mph but they'll accelerate u quicker then 3.73s
i'd go with 3.73s if you plan on getting a s.c or turbo

Theoretical top speed is calculated by the speed you are at during top gear and half redline x 2. so in 4th gear at 3k rpms, i am at 70mph, and theoretical top speed is 140mph.

i got a ? for AB.. when you got your tloc , gears, and the tuner all installed how much difference was there? like could you feel a major difference just driving normal or only at WOT? and also do you have 3.73 or 4.10 gears? i have an 04 v6 (auto) and was trying to decide which gears to pick

t-lok does nothing but help control traction by making both wheels spin.
you shouldnt pay to much over $200 for both to be installed my 2 buddies with them paed $150 and $175 at different places

I have FRPP 4.10:1 and FRPP tlok, shop charges shouild range from 200 to 300 for instal, and speedo corrections can be made with the xcal 2.
i spin into 3rd now with my 6k rpm redline amd 315 street tires. i also firmed the shifts as much as possible with the xcal 2- up 25% firmer. the difference, .5-.6 seconds off my e/t. the largest gain i have done. it accelerates so much harder, cut down my 60' a great deal, but still pulls hard to 6k rpms. i make most of my power up top due to my long tubes, but i have very quick acceleration and much better straight line traction as opposed to the open 2.73 stock rear
