Funny thing is that I went to the junkyard out in sun valley, california last weekend and they don't allow the sale of cats anymore as its a law apparently. I'd say just get new cats at Jegs.

Yes. As I said earlier, it isn't legal to install a used catalytic converter, so wrecking yards can't sell you one. I presume if you could get a private party to sell it to you, you could get away with that.

Yeah, the used Cats thing is actually a Federal law. Stupid, but the way it is. I will check Jegs out again also. The problem is still finding one that is CARB legal.

I presume a new y-pipe from Ford complete with catalytic converters is very expensive?
The shop manual has instructions for where to cut and weld etc. to replace the converters, so I presume they must be available. Perhaps you could get away with one converter per side with the other gutted out? |

You have 2 cats on your midpipe(y-pipe) and a cat on each of your headers or in your case exhaust manifolds. Open your hood and look down at the ends...you'll see 'em.

I did, and it is a nice set-up. And yep for the full CA "legal" that is about as cheap as it gets. I can get 4 OEM ones 4 $350 plus shipping, so I can actually beat that still. I am not concerned with being full on CA "Legal" as long as it will pass the sniff test.... And if 2 aftermarket Magnaflows will do that or something else that works as well. I am all good with it. And based off that site, it would seem that the only reason many Cats are not CA legal has to do with them not being certified by some outside test. If that is all, to H E double hockeysticks with CA's crap. Ok my vent is over

wow you should get a hook up on some brand new catco cats or magnaflow or you can order some exuast pypes with the bungs where there is no cats and it should pass the emissions or do it yourself by gettin some exuast pypes and weld your own bungs in for the o2 sensors
