Engine Rattle?

My girlfriend has a 2001 v6 and recently when she accelerates the engine has been making a rattling/ticking noise to it, but it doesn't make the noise when it is in park and revs it. what is the problem?????

Maybe an exhaust leak? It would be more of a ticking noise.

yea i cant really explain the noise that it makes, but has some sort of a ticking sound

^ 1. did a top end and didnt seal up the exaust manifold 100% and does/did exactly what you described. check for exaust leak roud headers/ egr/ etc. good luck.

Could be pinging i.e. preignition. These cars are prone to build up deposits on the pistons, especially the back two cylinders which cause preignition.
