Split Port Swap, bc if you got a turbo you would have to run low boost to keep your engine safe. What kind of mods do you have right now?

... there are two options, both of which you clearly defined...

if you go with the turbo, you will run on like... 8 psi something safe you know... have 250+ rear wheel horse power... and might have to do some extra maintenance... but nothing much... AND you will love it...

if you go with the bolt ons you will be ready for anything extra that you come across, but your car will not have 250+ horse power... and you might be regretting it...

your call

you could do that but that is alot of money
but yes that is what i would do or just save the 3grand for a 4.3l
but it depends on your power level you want and how long it takes you to save money

how much cash would it take to build the stock motor so it could handle a better boost?

You could probably just do forged internals for 2.5grand...

its more expenisve to build your current motor then buy one built

whitestang told me about 3500 for a motor to handle 15-20 psi...which on a gt is probably more hp then your looking

ok...while I agree that getting a bunch of stuff(turbo+split port+built engine) is good...that is more than 3 grand. First off you're gonna have trouble going turbo if 3 grand is all you have. Sure you could run at 6-8 psi and your engine will be fine, but your transmission and your rear end won't be. The turbo kit alone will cost you all 3k and maybe more. You wouldn't have any money left over for the necessary supporting mods that you would need to do. Here is what I would suggest with that kind of budget.
Start with the split port swap from CRT performance. Then get a tuner from tricktuners(link in my sig). Then get an 8.8 or 31 spline with gears. Then upgrade your suspension. That is a good mod list for the money. You will notice a difference in handling and performance, plus it is a good start for setting you up for a turbo in the future.

i would suggest getting the split port and some other bolt-ons, and suspension / drive train / brake upgrades.
that is probably the best bet for the 3g's because with only that you will only be able to get a turbo if that, and not the needed supporting mods to handle the power

i agree with what mmwarlord said 3grand would not be engough for the extras like tranny and rear but if you go low enough you wont need that stuff
i would save for a 4.3l or just get what mmwarlord said but also with the splitport get the windstar intake
