Are MIL Elims a waste?
So I'm setting up my exhaust system for my '06 and am considering gutting my cats (some shops will do it here in Texas). First of all, is it worth the trouble? If it's only going to get me 2 HP at best, I'll find it else where. Also, does it trip the check engine light? Now I know mil elims will get rid of this problem, but shouldn't I just put the $70 towards a tuner, which will also turn off the engine light?

your car will sound like crap with punched cats.
yes you will get a cel yes I would wait on the tuner and yes it can turn off the cel.

Ok, so high-flow cats and long headers are the best combo then? Or just keep the cats stock and just upgrade headers?

if you can't do O/R pipes then yes high flow cats are the next best option.
3 parts to an exhaust system headers mid pipe cat back your headers ( long tube or short) will negate the rest of your exhaust system.

What's an O/R pipe? Sorry, I've never done a whole exhaust system before. So let me get this straight, long headers, with high flow cats, H or X mids depending on what sound you want, and then mufflers...is that everything?

off road. it doesn't have cat's on it.
which is illegal mind you for a street car.. that's about it.. you also have the choice of a prochamber for your mid pipe though.. it's a mix between the h and the x

What's the HP and price difference between a high flow cat and O/R pipe? Texas doesn't do any emissions testing so I could slip by with an O/R. But how do you remove the sensors from the vehicle?

you can turn them off with a tuner or get the mils.
the sensors just unscrew. the O/R exhaust is generally cheaper the HP difference is less than 5 hp

im gonna go straight for the kill on this one,
MIL elims are a waste, a tuner gives you the same thing but adds so much more. |
