Loud Wine...

k my car tends to have a loud wining sound to it...the lower the gear the loud the sound. in first the wine comes in at about 2k rpms and just gets loud 2nd its not as loud 3rd less loud and etc...

the idle is normal at about 750 rpms but is kinda loud outside the car..louder then a normal car should be..
some other signs that my car has is the the engine tends to get pretty hot when i touch the CAI and the intake manifold or pretty much anything. even if i run the car for 20-30min with out going fast or in high rpms. also i think my car is eating gas a little faster then it should...i filled my car up and set the thing to 0miles...now im almost at half a take with 97miles on basically half a tank.

i think its all just one problem but idk...any suggestions about anything?

and...i dont have a s/c so no thats not the wine sound.

also this wine sound is about as loud as my exhaust...

A bearing will usually whine before it locks up.

If you take off your serpentine belt, you can tell if it is base engine or peripheral. Start the car up (cold engine), and let it run for only a short time. Without the belt spinning the water pump, you'll get hot fast.

If it stops whining, check your alternator, a/c comp, pwr steering pump, water pump, etc.

That would explain all of your symptoms, even the idle down time (since the IAC valve won't know what to do).

Just watch your temps so you don't overheat

if it stops whining with the belt off ... that mean's its not your engine or drivetrain.

but if it does... then sell your car to some kid and conivince him that it's the super charger

... or take it to a shop cuz its probably gonna be hard to fix

If taking the belt off makes the whine stop, then do this:

Put the belt back on and start the car. Take a piece of paper and make a cone shape. Put your ear at one end, and put the other close to the different components to try and pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

If the paper dosnt work try a screwdriver with a long shaft on it. And place the head of the screwdriver on any of the rotating assembly's. Put your ear up to the other end of the screw driver there will be a distinct difference if you find the wining problem area, especially if its a berring in the alternator.
