WTF is up with my temp gauge?

I finally have my car back together and I'm driving it everyday. It seems to be running great and the only problem I have is my temp gauge is not doing anything. All the other gauges are good. I swapped both coolant temp sensors out of the other (bad) motor and it still won't work. Just stays pegged all the way to the left. What the hell? Anybody ever have this problem? What should I do? I would like to be able to monitor the temperature of the motor I spent so much time and money building.

I looked this up in the shop manual. It says "If the engine coolant information is missing or invalid for five seconds, the temperature gauge will read below the cold position". I think that's what's happening. Further diagnostics requires an NGS tester and there are a list of codes and other procedures.

This is controlled by the ECU, so perhaps disconnecting the battery for a while might clear the codes and make it work again. Possibly one of the sensors is defective, but they are the ones from the original engine and presumably worked before. You may have to have this diagnosed by someone with the test equipment.

Okay

I'll try disconnecting the battery for like 15 minutes and see what happens. I have and SCT Xcal 2. I'll see if there are any codes but there are no lights on in the dash. Thanks.

Still nothing

I checked for codes today and there were none. I also disconnected the battery for a half an hour and the gauge still seems to be dead. The I'm going to try connecting the sensor to ground and see if the gauge reacts at all. If it's working properly it should jump to hot. Any other suggestions?

If you want to just test to see if its a faulty gauge, just hold in the trip reset button and turn your key to the on position (you dont have to start the car). Keep holding the button until it says "test" once it says test you can release the button and "gauge" will come up and all your needles will go to the right then back

Yeah, I have been driving it 30 miles to and from work every day since last Thursday. I know It's gotten dood and hot. I Installed a new thermostat, water pump and there are no leaks.
Does that trip reset TEST procedure work on a 97? I have the rolling Oddometer, not digital.

Oh, nevermind then you can't do the trip reset test. Well, i guess you could go with your other plan to ground the gauge and see if it moves

My rpm gauge does this all the time, ill be going down the road and then just out of nowhere it drops to 0, sometimes it doesnt even work at all. Dad says it could be faulty wire somewhere or just a short
