Engine swap?

Any particular reason (other than losing my car for a weekend) why spending roughly $5k on a 351W crate motor and installation wouldn't make more sense than spending that some money on power-adders for the 3.8? It just seems a little easier to me... plus, the majority of power-adders for the 351W are bolt on as long as I have some basic tools and an afternoon to kill.

I guess it partly comes down to if $5k in a 3.8L will lead to 400hp...

you'll also need suspension work and miscellaneous other things. it will end up costing you WAY more than the price of a 351W crate engine

the problem with the 3.8 at that hp is that u need the supporting mods for it also...ur tranny and rear will not hold up to that, so it wont just be swapping a motor

As long as I'm not running quarter miles, I doubt my driveshaft is going to snap in half or anything, so I should be fine for the immediate future after the swap until I find a good GT rear end take off (there's one on craigslist right now, but I'm not about to put my cart before the horse... plus I don't quite have the savings yet). And clearly I'll start upgrading the other things as I go... which is kind of the point with going with a 351W to begin with... I can do most mods myself in my driveway.

Suspension aside, is there really that much else that needs to be done?

The car its self will need some loving, you CANNOT beat on the rear end or transmission at all... if you do, kiss them good bye...

also, i doubt the T5 will work with the 351... look around for that info

suspension, rear end, tranny, brakes, tune, headers, exhaust, intake. im sure there are other things that you would need also. thats waaayyy more than just swapping in a 351w

Putting the engine in before doing all the supporting mods is putting the cart before the horse. Bottom line...this swap is gonna cost you A LOT more than you think. We're not bullshitting you here. Without the supporting mods, 400 HP (even if you're not running 1/4 miles) will fuck your car bad. There is a reason why 400+ HP mustang v6s are rare. It takes a lot of time, work, knowledge, and money to make a sixer fast.

Welcome to MM BTW

I'm going to get some information from HP Performance (check out their website, btw... HP Performance - Home) and see if they've done anything like this before, seeing as how they would be the shop that would be helping me with this project. I'm just in the planning stages right now, but the idea of putting this engine into a Mustang that was a V6 from the factory just seems so uniquely appealing.

But again... cart before the horse... I'm going to see what HP says and reassess the situation from there.

just keep in mind that you need supporting mods, don't expect to just put in the engine and call it done

your much better off getting a terminator motor anyways, but if you have your heart set on a 351, i agree with everyone in saying that its not just as easy as dropping the 3.8 and putting in the new one. Its gonna take alot more than 5k too unless you find a perfect donor car.
