they don't have a T lock so only one wheel spins.
t lock = traction lock or lsd

the 8.8 has a factory t lock.
unless someone took it out it should be there.. and they do sell 7.5 tlocks.

BTW...unless you plan on over 300HP don't get an 8.8. It is much cheaper and easier to get gears and a t-lok for your 7.5 than it is to get the 8.8 with gears.

a line lock locks your front brakes but not your rear so you can do your staging burnout without toasting your rear brakes.

Also don't get a line lock unless you have race tires. On street tires you are better off not doing a burn out. Burn outs are only beneficial on race tires.

well i need to do a burnout at the track no? and yeah the t-lock its cheap as hell . but the 8.8 rear comes with 4.10's for 840 or something . install would be expensive for either? and yeah i do plan on making over 300HP some day..

If you do plan on 300+ then yeah go for it...get the 8.8! BTW...I'm still trying to find a housing for a 99-04 8.8!

He has an s197...I think for him new is a better option. The install of a new one would be cheaper too...cuz more than likely the one from the junkyard won't have the gears you want. That means you'd have to pay for new gears as well as gear install. Just installing the rear end with no gear work is actually a lot cheaper than if you need new gears installed too.

I can't give you an exact number. Especially since prices on things tend to be more expensive in Cali. I would recommend contacting a local shop and getting an estimate. As long as they don't have to mess with the differential at all I would say less than $300.
