Shifting Techniques
Hey guys, I have a 1998 with around 143,000 miles. Lately I have been doing a little more aggressive driving and I want to perfect some shifting techniques, one is heel + toe shifting. I have a big foot but its a little awkward because my brake pedal is much closer than the gas. Is there any way i can adjust the pedals so they are around the same position? Also, is there any real benefits from double clutch down shifting or is simple rev matching fine?

are you asking how to move the pedals, or about some techniques for shifting?

The first part is how do i adjust the pedals. The second is if double clutching is beneficial at all.

youd have to play with the linkage
and double clutching isnt going to do anything unless you have an old transfer truck or something like that to smooth out the shifting. As for heel toe ive never had any success with it I get the same time on an auto-x course

go to americanmuscle.com and look up the 99-04 ford racing pedals...there is a movie attached which shows how u can move the gas pedal forward to make it match the brake pedal also heal to toe is tough in the mustangs just because of the way the pedals are set up, but if u can do it more power to u lol

u honestly dont need to double clutch or anything IMHO because the tranny will hold up to the power u have and it wont really help ur time because it takes longer to shift that way...just shift normally and dont skip gears lol

No double clutching is where you put the car into neutral let the clutch back out let the rpms settle then hit the clutch again and go into the next gear it is used to match your rpms and your speed for smoother shifts

If im doing 50 in third ill skip fourth and go straight to fifth it dont matter as long as the clutch is in and your at an ok mph now I would go from first to fifth at 15mph that would be bad

You don't really need to double clutch, just let your synchros do their job. Definitely rev match when you downshift, it practically eliminates any wear on the clutch during a downshift.
