A few questions...

Hello, I am new to this forum and I own a completely stock 2000 v6 automatic Mustang.

I am thinking about doing a few upgrades but I have a few questions first.

First question- Is this a good CAI for the price because I don't have too many upgrades and I don't want to spent to much on a CAI if I don't need it that bad. (Cant post links yet but it is the one from Americanmuscle for $75).

Second question- UDP's...I have read a lot about these but has anybody had any negative effects from them such as dimmer headlights or something...Just wondering. And also if I were to buy a set of UDP's would I buy a set that comes with three pulleys? I heard FRPP is the best but would any brand work the same? And would I need to buy a new belt for the new pulleys?

Third question- Gears...I have also read a lot about the 4.10 gears which I am leaning more towards buying than the 3.73 gears. I have heard but I am not sure if it is true, but are the 4.10 gears harder on your engine? I don't do too much highway driving that far, but a few times during the winter season I may drive a few hours on the highway to go snowboarding. So I was wondering if these were the right gears for me?
Also, I know I have to buy a tuner if I were to buy new gears. Which tuner do you guys recommend, and it is easy enough to use so I could tune it myself (btw I am kind of new to this if you haven't guessed already, so keep that in mind). And what else do I need to buy with the gears to get everything working and running well.

WHEWW...sorry I asked so many things, hopefully you guys can answer most of them for me.

Only electrical problem you will have is if you are running amps for subs or something. 3 pulleys will free up more hp. I believe MOTO blue pulleys are the only ones people say to stay away from because they warp. You will need a new belt

Third question- Gears...I have also read a lot about the 4.10 gears which I am leaning more towards buying than the 3.73 gears. I have heard but I am not sure if it is true, but are the 4.10 gears harder on your engine? All that the gears will do is raise your RPMs a bit and lose some MPG like 1-5. Not hard on the engine really. If you have an auto go 4.10 if manual do 3.73

Also, I know I have to buy a tuner if I were to buy new gears. Which tuner do you guys recommend, and it is easy enough to use so I could tune it myself (btw I am kind of new to this if you haven't guessed already, so keep that in mind). If you are new to this I wouldn't tune it myself further than adjusting for the gears. If you really want to tune it yourself diablo tuner is the way to go. Most people here prefer SCT and Trick Tuners will sell you an SCT tuner with two years of free tunes. If you have big plans for the car that will need a DYNO tune use whatever the Dyno shop uses.

And what else do I need to buy with the gears to get everything working and running well. I would throw in a T-Lock. While you are upgrading gears why not add in one. V6's aren't equipped with them from factory just GTs. You will need a master bearing kit and new fluid + friction modifier. Don't try to installl yourself, get a few quotes from shops.

WHEWW...sorry I asked so many things, hopefully you guys can answer most of them for me.

I have a 25% UDP and if I'm sitting at idle with my lights and wipers on, the lights will be just a tad dimmer than normal. If you are driving with rpms any higher than idle, this won't be a problem unless you are running a large sound system.

You will love 4.10s if you decide to go down that route. When I had my auto + 4.10s, it definitely woke the car up more than all the mods I had done combined. You might notice a slight loss in mpg for city driving, but you will definitely lose mpg on pure highway trips. I lost around 4-5 mpg highway.

thanks for the help..That is kind of a lot of mpg loss for those new gears. I didn't know you would lose that much.. And for the UDP's it doesn't so dim its hard to see right? And are there any other negative effects from them.

No, it doesn't dim that much. It's just enough where you can notice the difference if you blip the throttle. You wouldn't notice it if you aren't looking for the change.

Does a 2000 v6 Mustang have a 7.5 rear end, not and 8.8 right?
If so will these work? eBay Motors: Ford Mustang Racing 4.10 7.5" Gear Set V6 3.8 (item 280230742602 end time Jun-02-08 20:43:30 PDT)

Alright. Do you think those gears are good or should I be looking at other gears?

It is best NOT to buy used gears. Used gears will have a pre-established wear pattern on them that will not match your car. It could cause you some problems.
Also welcome to MM!

Also so that you know on your car 4.10 gears will give you a 25% increase in rear wheel torque. As for tuner stuff, click the link in my sig...you'll find all you need there.

I think so...there is a gear ratio / torque calculator in a sticky in this section. Put in your info...you can see exactly what gains you'll see.
