4.2 question

So the power comes from the 4.2 crank right? And that could come from a v6 f150...So If I were to go to a junkyard and find a f150 engine what would I be looking for on the engine and how hard would swapping cranks be if I had a lift and all the tools I would need

You'll need new pistons as well as a flywheel and harmonic balancer from 01+ (this is assuming your '00 is the early model that is externally balanced. If your UDP was neutral balanced, then you don't need a new flywheel or balancer). You should have your block honed or bored over just enough to clean it up and don't forget all the gaskets and bearings. It would be a huge missed opportunity if you didn't get a more aggressive cam during this swap.

you would need alot
you'd have to lift the junk yard motor out
turn it up side down
take of the oil pan, un bolt the mains and connect rods and take out the heavy crank and do the same with yours...resurface the crank, get a correct harmonic balancer, as well as a neutrally balanced flywheel
new bearings
lower overhaul gaskets
timing cover gasket
you could use your pistons and connect rods.
the rods need new bearings
you need new main bolts
i'd also do the rods bolts as well
water pump gasket as well

it'd be a shit ton of work for a very small gain in power from just the crank.
in no way would it be worth it
you'd gain more from a dyno tune it'd take MUCH less time and be cheaper with A LOT less work
shit i can think of a lot of other thing you could get that'd be better then doing that
ported intakes
dyno tune
gears and posi
cam
nitrous

I thought you would also need new rods/pistons. Since the 4.2 crankshaft has a longer stroke wouldn't the stock pistons/rods come up above deck height?

The rods are the same, but you will need new pistons.

plus since you have to get new pistons anyway....you might as well have it bored 30 or 40 over. Basically if yur gonna get a new block....do everything ya can right the first time while its out of the car and bare.

all in all its not worth it unless

you plan on having a v6 with plenty power which in that case

get long SCAT Rods
might as well at least get hyper pistons or forged
then h/c/i

Ok cool thanks everyone...what are your opinions on the 4.2 stroker kits. Also would ported and poliseh heads, ans intakes be as good of a gain as say the power packs that come with the items

pp heads and intake are the same thing included with a power pak.

personally i would go with rpm-mustangs CNC heads and a pp lower from ssm with a windstar upper, and then cam for app....but thats jsu tme.

My car is being built with a RPM Mustang 4.2 motor, with CNC heads, ported upper and lower from CRT Performance, should put down good numbers alone, but im adding a turbo

So the power pak is outr stock heads and intakes just p&p? Are the cnc heads better? also I thought the windstar uppers didnt fit under our hoods

VAP auto sells a kit that makes it under the stock hood, RPM-Mustangs cnc heads are worth the money imo.
