Exhaust suggestion thread # 482

Hi everyone. Was hoping to get some help. I recently bought a 2003 Mustang V6 and I need some tips on exhaust. It is bone stock. Motor is still incredibly healthy even with 82000 miles on it so having said that no known exhaust leaks either.

Okay, I need suggestions. Price.. meh don't really care, just need to know my options. If they could be given in price ranges like "Well for 400+ you could do, or for 200+ you could so on and so on"

Performance is always a plus but not looking to start that just yet with the exception of a CAI. However suggestions cannot rob horsepower if that's even possible by upgrading the exhaust system, barring the obvious and getting stupid and using the wrong setup and not having enough back pressure *waves bye bye to valves*

Okay. Sound. This is my most heavily weighted priority at the moment. I'm thinking side dump exhaust right in front of the back tires but will consider other options if it has bearing on noise or performance.

I'm looking for that V8 sound or as close as one can get to it using a 6. Something deep and throaty and doesn't sound like a fart can at anything above 3k rpm. Unless I REALLY want to beat someone I'm not going to push it past 5k RPM so that's the range I'd like the sound to stay nice in.

I don't know a lot about cars, I just know a little of a lot. And one of the things I know is that I'm a huge fan of mustangs, always had an obsession with them. That and thunder chickens (not the small compact version, bleh).

So please, chime in and help me out! Remember, price.. don't really care but keep it within reason, preferably under 1 grand but can stretch to 1.5.

Long tube headers are a good start. it will never sound like a v8 .. 2 different firing orders.

lol well yeah. I formerly had a 96 mustang v6 and went with a flowmaster 40, x pipe and dumped it out the back and in idle I've actually surprised a couple of mechanics supposedly into thinking it was a V8 by their own admission, the sound. Only downside was anything above 3k it sounded like a honda civic with a fart can the size of an oil drum on it's ass. But damn had a sweet rumble in .8 to 1.5

same thing with my 01 6er. I went magnaflow on her.
in the higher rpms she wasn't too bad.. I heard the intake over the exhaust surprisingly.
my set up was pretty basic.

custom (shop made) x pipe
and the magnaflow cat back.
and the intake was a tunable induction intake. sounded pretty good to my till I started buying v8 mustangs

Okay time to show how much I really know. magnaflow cat back. I know the magnaflow brand, but cat back? er.. english?

Were your catalytic converters still intact or were they replaced or simply cut out of the equation. By magnaflow did you mean mufflers?

And definitely understand about the buying v8 stangs. That's why I don't want to drop too much money into this one until I can save up and buy a brand new one with straight cash. (No more being in debt, it sucks, and too stressful) lol.

actually i'm running jba shorty headers with an x-pipe and straight pipes (no mufflers) from the x back and tips to look nice. you could get all that bought and installed for less than 1000. and it actually sounds amazing. like if i'm next to a saleen or cobra or gt and rev they're like holy shit what do you have in there. it scares non mustangs too that are faster then most mustangs too
