the crank is the same as well as the rods from 01-04
oddly according to FORD 96-00 share the same crank but in 01 they changed...i dont see or know how. when i take out my crankshaft i will compare it to an 01 and see whats different

heads
timing components
intakes
valves
springs
harness


aside from that they both have 3 thingy's coming out each side

forgot cams

those 3 thingys commin out from each side thats where all the powarz are too mang

i knew i forgot something making the list lol
which would include lifters and push rods and the list goes on lol
basically just as hmusn said completely different.

If I'm not mistaken, but someone correct me if I'm wrong the later months of 03, and 04 are the only 3.9L v6's so it's not exactly different years. There is no real difference besides a longer stroke, and .1L.
Mine had a sticker on it that said 3.9 when i used to have it.

If the sticker on your fan says 3.8l then you have a 3.8... If it says v6, it is a 3.9l

YEP how did you know?.. kinda like breeding dogs. they mixed the 3.8 with the 4.0 and got a cute little 3.9l
