Custom CAI

well i really have no money to spend on a CAI but i would like to have one so i stumbled across http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/coldair.htm
and im thinking of doing it. do yall think it will be effective? also ill take some type of black plastic to make a shroud around it so it doesnt suck in any hot air from the engine bay. i think this may be more effective than the metal since it wont transfer heat as well as the metal.

Why don't you just get a cheap one off of ebay? There really isn't a noticible difference between the metal and composite CAI's.

i didnt purchase mine on ebay but you can get the same one on ebay if you want heres the one i purchased from K&N directly

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=63-2566

and they also have this one

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=69-3522TP

but since yours is a 2000 Mustang here would be yours

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-2532

on average they run $80-$120 but sometimes you can find it at a even better deal *Sometimes* but ive never heard of a PVC cai go hot and ive had mine for over a year now and have not had any problems and only cleaned it once since ive put it on there great and well worth the money i wouldnt go cheap because they dont seem to last ya but thats m/o

There is a big difference between the cheap ones from ebay and a custom one. You can make your own for under $10.

Metal CAI's, like the ones on ebay, heat up due to the friction of the air passing through it, and since metal is such a great heat sink, it in turn heats up the air that passes through it.

Plastic CAI's dissapate heat better, and are unlikely to heat up. I had a MAC CAI on my car, chrome shiney, and got hotter then hell when I was driving. Since then I bought a Demolet Densecharger and altered it with a custom MAH to make it fully free flowing and have no restrictions where the air could bottleneck. All you need is some sewer pipeing from local hardware store and some sewer couplings to go over the seams. You will have to grind/sand/cut some adapters to fit your MAH or you can make your own like I did. Simple and easy.

IT doesnt look bad if you get the black stuff....Hell that is what the Demolet is in the first place. The K&N FIPK II is just plastic mold injection.

The flange that connects the Pipe to the Mass Air Housing? I just made my own Mass Air Housing to fit over the CAI pipes. Cost me $4

Big negative on the Demolet Denscharger/Tunable Induction...

I had one...

It hydrolocked my motor...

So if you have one dont drive around with it in the down position unless you want to buy a new motor...

Just a word of warning...

I have a full demolet CAI sitting in my bedroom floor that will never be around my car again...
