Cam

I decided that I'm gonna take the n/a route. Just a basic bolt on car with some gears, t-lok, cam, and a nice tune. Don't want to put too much money into the car. Well what is a good n/a cam to get. I remember seein one, but I can't remember what it was, and couldn't find it on the thread.

because I would rather have the sheet metal upper intake, and that isn't what I have in the future for my car. I'm not lookin to build the best v6 mustang out there. Just one that I'm happy with. I don't have time to go to a track a lot, but I love to mod my car. My car is a street car.

talk with mik from RPM-Mustangs he will get you set straight... look at his 207/215 .505/.495" 110/2LCA budget cam!

The bigger the cam (ie., .512 lift and .512 duration) you will loose brake line pressure unless you add a vaccum canister with your cam. And since you have to tear the engine apart to get to it, might as well send the upper and lower intake off to Super Six for porting and polishing, that is the BEST hp increase a 6er can get.

Budget cam yes, but way to small to notice any real differences. My cam for my 3.8 is 222/234 .59/.60 11*, now you don't have to go that big as it is a custom grind. I would look into a bigger one then the one posted.

Also going to need better springs as well to handle the extra lift.

He won't need a vacumn canister at all. I have yet to see a v6 that has problem with vacumn at idle. Yes you will lose vacumn with a bigger cam, but not enough to warrent a cansister. As long you have 10 lbs of vacumn you'll be fine.

it is a small cam, but like you mentioned the bigger cams will require upgrades to the valve train... which means more $$$, and that one works with the stock springs. so i was thinking that would fit along his lines of not wanting to put too much money into the car?

Exactly! I'm trying to keep it a basic bolt on car with something else. I don't want anything too radical, but I want something that will bring everything together, and put a smile on my face from the moment I start it up to the moment I get out of my car.

don't get me wrong you will be happier with a larger cam like dapck69 suggested, but I wanted you to know that there were additional costs involved in running such a cam, but also don't forget that CompCams has a new 3.8/4.2 lineup as well. don't really know much about the Crane series... now when i was doing a little research on buying a turbo 4.2L cam i spoke w/Matt about Delk doing a custom billet, and they are not cheap by any means. I did find that Matt tends to spec the cams a little larger than the other vendors out there beit old RGR, RPM, SSX, Morana and Comp Cams.

I did. He looked around for some core cams, and can't find any.
