help
Ok i am new here. So I have a 1996 3.8l v6 mustang and i want more power which the ford mustang should have. It has 190 hp or something like that i only want to go to 240 hp. A mechanic suggested buying a new ecu(engine control unit) and taking it somewhere to get programmed. I tried looking for some but I can't find any. I was wondering if anyone on here can point me in the right direction. and if that really works.
thanks, Seaner86 |

if you have a 1996 mustang then you only have 145 hp not 190.

Uh... what?
I think what he meant, hoping what he meant at least, is that you should get a tuner. And if that's the case look into SCT tuners. Get the xcal 2 or xcal 3 IMO. You're looking at 379 for the tuner and there's a couple guys that'll chime in with links to a dude who'll help you out with some tunes and shit. Haha. -poindexter-

+1 on hoping that he meant a tuner. there are many tuners to choose from sct, sniper, diablo, etc.. first thing i would suggest would be getting a split port swap. which is taking the intake manifolds from a 99-04 mustang v6 and throwing them on yours which will make you have 190hp. or better yet get ported intakes from CRT performance.
Here are a few sites you can shop around at. americanmuscle.com stangmods.com upr.com crtperformance.com

the first starter mods would be cold air intake, tuner, rearend gears, tlok, shifter, u/d pullies, rims/tires, springs

Ok first...lets just clarify. With the 96 you have 145 crank HP...not RWHP. If you get a split port swap that will put you even with the 98-04's 190 crank HP. Click the link in my sig for a tuner. As a member of the forum you can get a discount. The tuner is a great mod that will help you get the most out of your future mods. When you check out the link in my sig, do some reading. The site tells you all you need to know about tuners. After that I would look into getting gears and a t-lok. After that the sky (and your wallet) is the limit on what you can do. It all depends on what your goals are. Welcome to MM.
