3.8 V6 Convertible Purchase Question/s please

Hello folks,

1st post

Need help if possible....

My Girlfriend is looking at a 2000 3.8 V6 automatic Mustang convertible to possibly purchase. Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this particular model (engine/transmission). Interested if the vehicle model has any inherent mechanical problems?
Another area of concern would be the convertible top and any problems associated with the mechanical or electrical functions.
Also / Or if I am in the wrong site or forum, does someone know of a good or better source to go to to ask these questions?

opps, it is an automatic.....

Thanks,

Nic

That engine block is the same engine block used since 94-04. It is a strong engine, that really doesn't have any problems if maintained properly. My 98 has yet to have any real problems except for the camshaft guide pin and the camshaft guide pin sensor wear out. They eventually wear out, and cause a couple problems. I have yet to find out about any problems with the vert top. Also this is the best Mustang there is. Everything you need is here.

Thanks Cricket,

Is the camshaft guide and sensor an expensive repair please? Also how are timing chains on these engines...is there a general rule of thumb of when to replace them?

One other question...the car has 95,000 miles....is the transmission going to be a problem any time soon?

Is this a 200000 mile car maybe?

Sorry for all of thes questions....

thanks,

Nic

200,000 mile car....i wish ford made a car that was dependable at those miles...i'd never buy any for with over 100,000...although if properly maintained it can be...but how can you trust the seller?

that was a $500 fix at a dealership. Not cheap, but a little important if you ask me. Generally a well kept low mileage mustang will treat you extremely nicely. For the most part they are easy to maintain, and will run a nice distance without complaining.

i have an 04 convert v6 auto and i haven't had any problems with it. the convertible top works perfectly fine with no problems and engine/transmission is perfectly fine.. so if its in good condition its a nice car.
