Question

getting ready to upgrade gears! few questions...

well i've been reading up on many forums about this topic and many are mixed here and there..... so here it goes

'97 V6 Automatic: Daily Driver: 10 miles round trip to work M-F, i like cruising around mainly in the city on weekends.

I know either gear i install, have it be 3.73 or 4.10 my RPMs will go up and may lose 1-3 MPG which I am not worried about.

HOWEVER, I was at an autoparts store the other day buying some WAX and I noticed this really nicely modded stang outside 2006 or 2007 and coincidently the guy that owned it happened to ask me what kind of wax i was looking for (He did not work there, just another customer) and he mentions that is his Mustang outside. I told him I have one too.. and asked him about the gears... about the 4.10s.. and he said it will throw my RPMs into like the 6000's in like first gear and that my engine would go pretty fast....

I mean I heard that maybe during my daily commute I would be in like the 3000's but not 6000s!! Did he maybe forget to mention I would need to get the car tuned after I install those gears...??

and since I wouldnt really be using my car for track purposes.. i do like accelerating... the feel of it... im not a crazy lead footer, but I like doing it once in a while... so please keep all this in mind... do I need a T-LOK as well?

Im getting dual exhaust this Tuesday btw.. that will rule!!

please I open up suggestions and ideas.... so again with the specs and details I mentioned, is 3.73 sufficient enough or 4.10! thanks for all the valuable input..!

and after I do the 4.10s... do most places automatically tune it correctly afterwards (As in is it part of the installation) ?

no. you would have to get that fixed yourself. unless you supply the parts they won't do it.

well im gonna be bringing to a reputable place and all they focus is on drivetrain so im sure they will have the equipment.... but what exactly is the tune for.... for the guages appearing correct? or for what? because if that is the only thing then I will just wait and hopefully find a friend that has one of those tuners and do it myself.

your friend with the tuner can't help you.. they are only good for one car.
all it affects in your speedo.. which mind you also affects your odometer..

hmm... so it will trick the odometer in putting more miles on the odometer than what I have actually traveled?
IS this the right thing i need?

also T-LOKs... advisable, or not necessary for my style?
