HELP Transmission Pan Gasket Leaking!

Hey guys, while I know a fair amount about mustangs, I've always been pretty weak when it comes to transmission stuff. I just found out that my transmission pan gasket is leaking. How serious is this? What will it take to fix it? How much should I expect to pay if I take it to a shop? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Not too hard to fix, and while you're at it, go ahead and flush out your tranny fluid.
You can buy the pan gasket at autozone, and it'll even come with a new filter.
I can give you the same step-by-step I was given.
disconnect the lines running from the radiator to the tranny from the radiator. should be two metal hoses that connect to the bottom part of the radiator on the driver's side. Remove the drain plug from the tranny's pan, and drain the fluid. make sure you have a bucket under both of the loose ends of the metal hoses. turn the engine on. turn it off AS SOON AS the hose that spits out the fluid stops spitting it out. take off the tranny's pan, replace the filter, put the gasket on, and bolt it back up. reconnect the coolant lines to the radiator. fill your tranny fluid back up. start the engine, and check the transmission fluid.
I didn't do it on my car, I had a shop do it. But that's how I was told how to do it.

What you want is a total tranny flush. costs $130. that includes a new gasket and filter.

If you have a drain plug in the torque converter (which I believe you do) you can change almost all the fluid by removing that plug to drain the torque converter and removing the oil pan. Replace the pan gasket and drain plug and refill it. It takes something like 10 qts of fluid. You can add about half of it then run the engine a bit to refill the torque converter and refill again. I would use Ford ATF and a Ford pan gasket. The fluid will be ~$50.

dont forget what people say about flushing the tranny, whatever is in there acts like glue for it, if you get a total flush you could be looking at a hell of alot more problems coming up after.

this is true if it has not been changed for a long period of time you might regret a total flush just change filter and gasket if that is the case but it's your choice.

Post rep for people guys!!! see the the middle icon on the left!!

basically taking the pan off and draining from there, just dont take all the bolts off the pan, loosen them all a tiny bit, use a screw driver to pry the pan and loosen it, it will be all gravy from there....a nasty....kinda foul smelling..gravy.

Yeah I actually got a total flush about 6 months ago. I figure that's why I have the leak. I'm not sure what I should do. Should I have the whole thing flushed again, or should I just replace the gasket and filter. BTW el33tist you got rep.

if they replaced the filter and all before, just replace the gasket. or if it comes with the filter, then might as well replace it since it's already down... *shrugs*

Thanks I guess I'll try just replacing the gasket and filter and see if that fixes the problem.

You're gonna lose most of your fluid when you change the filter. you have to drop the pan to change the filter, so make sure you have more to put in. I wouldn't bother w/ a total flush since you just got one, but go ahead and let the pan drain, change the filter, replace the gasket and pan, and replace fluid. also, check your rear main seal.
