So I Went To Visit An Exhaust Shop...
I went to a shop today and wanted to hear what you guys have to say. The exhaust dude left me with two options. First option which he quoted me $300 is to stay single tube exhaust, go with a Flowmaster and open up to 2" which he said would sound decent and give me some gain. Second option which is quoted at $500 is to do a dual using what he called "Turbo" mufflers which he would cut into what I have right after the O2 sensors and run two 2" pipes which he said would sound better than the single, to not expect to sound like a v8 (Which I'm not) but I wouldn't have anything to brag about. He basically said that v6's cannot produce a sound that you can be proud of. So I'm left with what the hell do I do at this point. There has to be something I can do to a v6 to add some growl to it. What I DON'T want to do is put alot of money into something that I won't be happy with. Keep in mind for the price, these are Canadian Prices, I'm more interested in the options that was given to me.

my duals were 350USD made with flowmaster 40s mufflers and a crossover bar. And IMO it sounded great, not a cammed 429 by any means, but it sounded good and guys asked if it was a v8 quite often

tell that exhaust shop to shove a v8 up their ass, if they wanted your business they would have been truthful, any car will sound nice with the right kind of exhaust.

he was right, that it will never sound like a V8... they have different firing orders...
but it sounds like he was just being an ass about it... you may not get it to sound like a V8, but you can still get it to sound good and have a nice growl to it... |

Yeah. +1 to the above posters (But -1 for not having a black 'Stang)
![]() That dude should shove a pineapple up his ass leaves first. Look in the Exhaust thread. There are plenty of stock sixxers with true dual setups that sound amazing. That guy was just a hater... probably with a small penis. Thus the "You need a v8" mentality (Compensation). Depending on which year you have i'd say do a true dual with an H-pipe (Or x-pipe if you have a 197) and then your choice of mufflers. The MM consensus usually leads to Flowmaster ORIGINAL 40's but a lot like other brands. Again, check the stickied exhaust thread. And then if you want you could buy a full exhaust back system from mac or something. But 500 seems way too pricey IMO. Plus the dude seemed like a dickhead and a half. Furthermore I'd say go with 2.25" piping but that's just my opinion. -poindexter-

hey man dont go with a 2" exhaust, if you have any plans of a power adder at all, or just for the benifet of it go with 2.5". 2 1/4 is what is already on our v6's. I went with a Summit Kit and Flowmaster 40's with a H-pipe and with shipping to my door, Nextday delivery it only cost me $236.00. Tips were 40, and i did the install myself. If you can weld and have a lift its really easy to do IMO, And it's way cheaper!!!

Hey man if you can go to a different shop, I would. I think that you should go true dual with 2.25 or 2.5 pipes. I can't believe that asshole was suggesting that you go with a smaller than stock pipe diameter. Also, don't let him try to push that "turbo muffler" crap on you. From what I've heard, you like flowmasters. Get a true dual setup with h-pipe adapter and flowmaster 40s or flowmaster 40 deltas. The only thing that he said that was right is that you won't sound like a V8. That is true. However, with a good true dual setup you can sound DAMN GOOD. Almost everyone I talk to is actually very surprised to find out that my car is a V6.

First thing I have to do is find a shop in Washington that will do this for me for the prices you guys are quoting. I have family about 4 hours away in Olympia in which I could go down for a visit to get this done. I actually had my step dad call their mechanic and ask what a dual set up would cost with flowmaster 40's and h pipe and he quoted $500 as well. Shitty thing is though that being in Canada, it's hard to find a decent shop over the border as the long distance phone charges grow with each call. Canada really sucks for buying cars or getting them worked on. Some of the stuff you guys talk about getting done up here would cost a small fortune. Infact, I was visiting my local mustang forum and EVERYONE told me to message this one shop owner for pricing. That same H PIPE set up with Delta's was $820. Don't believe me, here's the link * Exaust & Installation - Vancouver Mustangs
I asked in a thread as well as a message "Which price is it for the full set up, the $270 or $550" and in both the message to the guy and the thread I was told BOTH. I find it totally amazing that most of you can get away with around the $400 range and just over the border, we are charged $800 and NO ONE questions it. Sorry for going off haha just frustrated with trying to do a few things to my car up here. |

If you're going to come to washington going all the way to Olympia is a bit far seeing as a lot of the shops in between will do it for cheap. And Vancouver can be a really weird place for a lot of things, i've noticed. It's like they just accept things costing an arm and a leg up there where you'd pay next to nothing down across the border. -.-
If you want I'll give you info I can try and gather from the greater Seattle area (I'm in everett just north of it) and that way you don't have to go all the way to Olypmia. But I do know of some good shops in that area. Not personally, but word o' mouth, ya know? -poindexter-

Ya, I know that that's what it is down there. We've established that. Just trying to find a place in the closest state to me that will do it.
