Another rear end thread

First question is do the 7.5 and the 8.8 use the same t lok. The reason I ask is because it is damn hard to find an 8.8 locally. So im thinkin gears and tlok might have to go on the current rear. Second question is why is the general concensus 300whp on the 7.5 could it poss handle more? Mayb less? should I hold out for an 8.8 or go the cheap route

Depends on how much rwhp your planning and if you think it will hold
Most of the time i see that the 7.5 with tlok can handle 300~350ish. Personally I would wait for the 8.8. But it depends on your budget and what your planning for the car.

to answer that no. they have different sizes..hence the 7.5 and 8.8.....same goes for when something says 10 bolt or 12 bolt.....its all based and stated from the differentail/carrier--or tractionlok in this case.---they arent interchangeable. you wont be able to fit an 8.8 tlok in the 7.5 housing...nor would the ring form the 7.5 fit on the 8.8 tlok. vice versa as well one can imagine....personally unless youre positive your gonna pass or hit that mark id stay with your 7.5 if they are hard to find....get 7.5 gears and tlok--from LMR(late model resto) for example.

hey SSSTang, now that you said that, I remember reading somewhere that its mostly hard launches that break the 7.5, right?

and prodrifterx makes a valid point.
It mostly depends on what your planning on putting into your car I guess.

hard launches are what destroy anything these days....transmissions are rated to a certain point yet people exceed these all the time some have failures and some dont...all depends on how you treat the car....yet its usually the spline that'll shear first...regardless get a rear end girdle/main cover with support studs/bolts. you will either be budget friendly(this may hurt the wallet down the road) or piece of mind friendly(this one hurts the wallet intially lol)
